You are invited to this year’s Permaculture Action Days
before SONIC BLOOM on Wednesday, June 14th – Thursday, June 15th!

This year’s Permaculture Action Day will again be at Aztlan Cultural Center, SONIC BLOOM’s neighbor and an indigenous cultural center that hosts weekly free ceremonies and an annual Sun Dance, welcoming all people to its ceremony.

As we dance and connect in our own special way, we invite you to stand in solidarity with our indigenous neighbors who are holding their own connection to the land, spirit, and each other.

As we dance and connect in our own special way, we invite you to stand in solidarity with our indigenous neighbors who are holding their own connection to the land, spirit, and each other.

This action day will focus on:

  • Re-building the community kitchen on site
  • Restoring creek-side forest ecosystems
  • Installing water storage and pump system

AS WELL AS:

  • Clearing the forest and gathering ceremony wood
  •  Tending to the land and trash removal
  • Restoring the creek from blockages and debris

IF WE ARE ABLE TO COLLECT THE RESOURCES, WE ARE ALSO TRYING TO:

  • Re-build the ceremonial moon lodge with a permanent frame and canvas walls

This action day is an extension of our past years’ work at the region’s high school, community gardens, and community centers creating greater food sovereignty in the region while supporting our local and indigenous neighbors in fostering greater connectivity to the land. Projects restore ecosystems and create a more sustainable way of life in Huerfano County and Spanish Peaks Country.

In addition to the hands-on projects listed above we will host a number of workshops at the action day, accompanied by musical performances and a community meal for our attendees.

Attending the action day is free, as always. We’re grateful for your presence and solidarity.

We do welcome you to bring food to share potluck style and some water or drinks to hydrate.

• What to bring?
Bring a water bottle, close toed shoes and work gloves if you have them, any tools you think may be supportive (shovels, drills, etc.) and feel free to bring food or drinks to share.

Directions to the Action Day:
1) From the I 25 to Walsenburg
2) Take Exit 56 to the west
3) Drive 2.5 miles until the road dead ends; turn right on to Hwy 69
4) Approximately 24 miles to County Road 630 – the entrance is at the base of a large butte. Turn right on county road 630 (roads are marked with green street signs)
4.5) keep to the right when the road splits (at this point the road turns into CR 620)
5) it’s approximately 5 miles until road CLEARLY DEAD ENDS @ a “T” in the road (if you’re unsure, then you’re not at the “T”. It’s obvious)
6) Turn right at the “T”
7) First left through the green gate and follow “Aztlan” sign down the hill
GPS using Apple Maps (and probably Google) takes you right there. It’s a beautiful 45 minute drive from the festival site.
