Recently ill.gates met Bill Gates and being true to his character, shared a few laughs and then performed in front of the legendary ‘Bill’ on his (Apple) Macbook Pro.
The man presenting some of the dopest Ableton tutorials and production packs online including one recently for Eskamon (ESKMO & Amon Tobin) is also the man who has rocked many dancefloors with his original productions and collaborations with the likes of Bassnectar, Filastine, Masia One and many more. This man is Toronto-based electronic music composer, performer, educator, visionary and innovator, Dylan Lane (aka ill.gates).
Dylan brings charisma, character and professionalism to his production and tutorials, in a effort to make production and the musical experience accessible to anyone with enough interest and dedication. He teaches the lifestyle of being a successful musician in addition to production techniques, drawing on Buddhism and Nietzche as much as a Native Instruments or Ableton tutorial.
Over the past decade as a live performer, Dylan has established a reputation as one of the most electrifying electronic music performers around, touring across Canada, the U.S., Australia, Switzerland, Austria, UK, and Japan; and headlining such festivals as Burning Man (Nevada), Shambala (BC), the World Electronic Music Festival (Ontario) and Evolve Festival (Antigonish, NS). His first full-length release, Autopirate (Muti Music, 2008) reached #1 on many of the world’s leading digital music distributors such as Beatport and Addictech and continues to sell strongly. Several of his songs have been licensed to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). He has also been commissioned to compose music for General Motors Corp. advertising in Latin America. Many of his contemporaries list Dylan as a key artistic influence and inspiration in their music.
