Q. What do you remember as your first inkling to begin producing electronic music?
A. My mum had an album called “Go Moog!” by Electrik Cokernut and it was a series of pop hits from the day [1972] performed on a modular Moog synthesiser. The other-worldy sounds and cover shot of a coconut with a patchbay and keyboard convinced me that electronic music was the way forward.

Q. How have you seen the dub scene develop in recent years? What influence has that had on your music in particular?
A. I wasn’t aware there was a ‘dub scene’ and if there is I’m almost certainly not part of it. Not being part of any scene is the single biggest influence on what I do.

Q. If you weren’t making music, what would you see yourself doing?
A. Writing, probably. And hassling for spare change at bus stations.

Q. Do you ever feel yourself struggling to stay motivated on tour? How do you persevere?
A. The endless treadmill of airport, aeroplane, taxi, hotel, taxi. airport, aeroplane, taxi, hotel can sap my will to live, but the 90 minutes I get to make a racket each night easily makes up for it. No matter how grim the airport layover, or how dismal the anonymous chain hotel beside a freeway in Arkansas, I never fail to feel rejuvenated by the spirit of the party.

A. The Boll Weevil.
