Connect each participant’s mind, soul and body through the lineage dance of hip-hop, and have allow guests the opportunity to share the experience at the festival with a stage performance.
COSMIC HIP HOP UNLIMITED:
Hip-hop is a global movement that was created to bring people together and allow them to express themselves through art forms developed by and for everyday people. It emerged as a societal reaction that merged dance, music, art, MCing, and a lifestyle to a community of people that has now become world-wide.
At progressive music festivals, I believe it is important to get people to dance to their fullest ability, to wake them up to their capabilities and to introduce them to an art form that was made for them. Hip-hop is a celebration, an expression of freedom and a way to rise above life’s worries. Much like yoga or meditation, it allows us to change our focus from thought, to our movement and the movement of others.
The workshops will teach the six fundamental elements of hip-hop dance—popping, locking, boogaloo, rocking, breaking, and social dance. Our goal is to help people understand their origin and development. The class will break down the physical and rhythmic foundations of each element in a way that is within reach for everyone from beginner to advanced. Building on this movement vocabulary, everyone taking the class will then learn a sequence of choreography that they will perform on stage during one of the festival’s musical acts. Not only will this give them an opportunity to share what they’ve learned, but it will showcase the communal creative potential of the event and help amp up the crowd, as they see their fellow-attendees perform.
Elana Jaroff has utilized the ins and outs of the entertainment business by taking her performance career seriously as an important part of her life exploration, and embracing each opportunity with focused intention and a constant smile, she has learned to enjoy the adventure. Her mission is to share the love of the dance and spread it’s educational purpose.
This positive, inclusive philosophy is reflected in her work as a dancer and choreographer, particularly in the way she interweaves styles, influences and energies into her own form from her upbringing in Long Island and Manhattan.
She has brought her unique dance style to audiences at such legendary NYC venues as Hammerstein Ballroom, Highline Ballroom and Lincoln Center. She’s recently had the honor to perform at different festivals and events with The Human Experience, Phutureprimitive, Kaminanda and Andreillien and more.
Elana formed a dance crew, ‘The nerd-E Crew’ in 2011, as a way to further develop her own choreography and performance approach. This group has blossomed more beautifully than she originally imagined and has had the honor of supporting the creative festival community.
